Now we have to Diasagree, although in N4, I would say that as it's East of Hermitage, Maynard's was located in Tottenham, not Harringay.

Tiverton Road and the houses to the right of it were demolished in the period 1955/60 ..further to the right (out of photo) they were falttened by a V2 which also killed my great-grandparents at  19:45 on 21 Jan 1945.  That whole area was known as 'Tookah' and certainly wasn't considered a good area.

I also had friends who lived on Ashfield and Oakdale Roads and we all considered it Tottenham not Harringay.

I agree it's one of the borderland areas where there's less likely to be a unanimity of views. But b****r that, aren't they great pictures. All those allotments still and in the foreground the gardens of the big houses that used to stand on Seven Sisters Road, stretching down to the New River.

Oh another point, the two bridges under the railway (apart from Hermitage Road ) into St Ann's Hospital. I knew they were there because we played on that railway as kids. were they original intended as roads onto a developed hospital site?

Oh yes, I remember you mentioning those before.

so is the factory on the area between Eade and Vale Roads which is now occupied by the electicity tunnel and OCC chimney?

Comment by Hugh on June 25, 2012 at 19:46

The OCC chimney was the Maynards. It's number 1 on our Historic Sites in Harringay Foursqaure list.

Eade Road doesn't look completed .. The yard onto Eade Road to the south of Maynards became an entrance into the factory and as kids we used to watch the women employees streaming out (more like running) after the factory hooter went at 5.00p.m.

It was to us like out of a hollywood movie. Women streaming out of doors on three levels all intent on clocking out and getting home asap.
