Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Numbers 4 - 28 Mayes Road c1905
This is the north side of Mayes Road between Blenheim Road and the High Road. The Maypole on the corner was number 28. All was buried by the Shopping City.

I'll give you 'High Road' rather than 'High Street'. But it looks like 'Blenheim Road' is right Though I can see why you might have thought it was 'Grove'.

It rather nicely shows how often pubs in that period developed in ordinary shops rather than the grand palaces of booze we are more used to!

Much does come from around 1905, Richard. It was a perfect storm. Cheap photography had arrived. Cheap postal services were up and running and you could send a postcard in the morning and have it arrive the same day. Postcards were the WhatsApp of their day in Edwardian times.

How strange Hugh, I'm sure it was Blenheim Grove when I was a kid in the 60s, and an A-Z I have, undated but I think around 1971/2 because it has a pre-decimal and decimal price on the cover, shows "Grove". Renamed at some stage? The High Road end was occupied by Wheatlands, a large furniture store I recall.

Here's the 1952 OS. The Grove has become Blenheim Grove, But Blenheim Road is unchanged.
