British Railways were nationalised by the Labour government in 1948. I'm not sure how long the locomotives carried their previous owner's logos.

Therefore this might actually be slightly earlier than 1948

This is a Peppercorn A2/3 Pacific, 525 later 60525, and named after the man himself, A.H. Peppercorn.

It was built in December 1947 and given its BR number in August 1949, so the photo can be dated between those months.
