Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay Cricket Pitch, looking towards Northumberland House, c1905

This unusual photo was shot across the cricket pitch on the north east corner of Finsbury Park. It shows the full extent of Northumberland House and the tops of the terrace of houses to its south, of which now only the building hosting The Finsbury pub now remains. If you click on View Full Size, you can just make out the arch at the gateway of Northumberland House, topped with its percyesque lion.

And there are at least two games going on there! Proper umpires in black trousers too so looks competitive.

I remember playing on grounds like this including this one in the 50s and 60s where one game interfered quite often with the one next door. Umpires needed to be sharp and sensible at times!
