Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay's Turkish Restaurants in National Campaign to drop Food Delivery Apps

The Daily Telegraph is reporting today that a group of Turkish restaurants are rebelling against food delivery companies, calling on customers 'drop the app' when they could pick up themselves.

They claim that food delivery companies take as much as 30% commission on takeaway orders.

The Telegraph article singles out the restaurant owners of Harringay as being keen supporters of the campaign

The traders' push comes amidst fears that despite lockdown easing on July 4, footfall to restaurants will not return to pre-crisis levels.

I love how the Kebab Alliance chairman uses the word Kebab at least once in each sentence.

You managed to beat him though.

!!

LOL

that would be good, to just refuse deliveroo etc. and do it themselves

The now apparently defunct Indika used to use their own delivery guy and made no delivery charge. With all the restaurants on Green Lanes, you 'd think the owners could set up something between them, no?

Exactly... that's what strong communities are for. and maybe donate part to the food banks etc.

Btw do you know, is it true or apocryphal that at the time of the riots in Tottenham, rioters got as far as Green Lanes and faced serious Turkish opposition along the 'you want some?' lines?!

and could get no further...

Indika is no more?

Indika isn't defunct - we had takeaway from them a week ago. I think they are refurbing the restaurant as it looks closed but the kitchens are open.

Thanks Maddy. Good to hear.

We got a menu delivered through the door a couple of days ago. So hopefully they will open again soon.

By coincidence (or not, maybe) Ali rang me today with news. The first part of the new is that Indika is continuing as a delivery/take-away only service. The second part of the new, I'll add elsewhere.
