Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

My wife picked up her iPad yesterday to find that she had been locked out. We are facing an "Activation Lock" Screen, with the following message: "This iPad is linked to an Apple ID. Enter the Apple ID and password that were used to set up this iPad.". There's an ID prompt for an @icloud.com address, which she's not aware of. The iPad won't allow her to log in/activate with her actual Apple ID.

This might be the result of a hack, and we realise that by now the content of the iPad might have been erased. However, I'd like to ask whether anyone knows of a solution/work around to this issue.

Thanks,

Peter

Have you tried logging in with your known itunes/icloud log-in?

Hi Hugh, and yes, we have. It won't accept it.

Try holding top button and lower down button incentre at the same time

also look on YouTube type in what’s wrong and people put up videos might help with problem

Thanks Catherine,

we'll give all that a try!

That sounds odd. As far as I'm aware, to get past the activation lock, you need to sign in with the Apple ID used to set up the device. Can you log in to the Apple account online using the Apple ID on the computer you're using to read this? Does the device still show as being linked to the account?

You probably have an iCloud email address without even knowing it. It’s the kind of thing you’re given when you first set up the iPad.

I think the Apple ID prompt will always show an iCloud address, but I've never used mine to log in.

Yes, we're not aware of consciously setting up an icloud address, so I guess Michael's right.

Logging into iTunes with the known Apple ID is prompting us to contact Apple support.

So it looks to me like there's a problem with the Apple ID. My next step in your shoes would be to contact Apple (through firmly gritted teeth!).

(Yes, you'll always be given an iCloud address, but you don't need to use it unless that was the only one used to set up your Apple account - which is unlikley).

Teeth gritting in process...
