Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I overheard two guys going into Subway this morning - the younger one said "Hang on - do I need a mask?" to which the older one replied "Naah...f***k it!".  I think that just about sums up the attitude amongst some people.

Conversely, Sainsbury's had almost 100% of people wearing masks, including most of the staff. I do feel sorry for retail staff having to wear them all day, but it does appear to be setting some kind of standard for others to follow.

The checkout lady told me that she hasn't dared see her mum for six months, as she's so afraid of passing on the virus from being in contact with customers. It's not much to ask of us, to pop a mask on for a short time while we shop, is it?

Whenever I’ve been in Yasar Halim ALL the staff are wearing them on their chins.

I've also been disturbed by people hugging each other and then parting four different ways, and even more so by people happily hacking and spitting on the street (which is disturbing enough in peacetime).

I also don't understand the nose-out crowd. Why do they bother?

Possibly beaten only by the older woman (probably in her 60s) I saw in the, socially-distanced, out-patients waiting area of a central London hospital who was wearing a mask that she then lowered specifically so that she could cough....

Pleased to hear that Sainsbury's is FINALLY getting its act together. Whenever I have been in it's been 50% mask-wearing at best with plenty walking about with them around their chins or not at all. Maybe the possibility of another lockdown is making more people around here take it seriously - although not everyone obviously

Shouldn't it become a legal requirement as we move into a second spike?

Yes it should but I fear a repeat of March. Lots of sitting about wringing their hands saying things like "we're just weeks behind Spain" but doing nothing. Then wondering cases are spiralling out of control

It IS a legal requirement for customers and staff

. And everybody in Sainsburys was wearing a mask this morning.

Glad to hear it. I was in the Sainsbury's in Camden yesterday and there were plenty of people not wearing one there - not just the staff

I thought it was a legal requirement but clearly not enforced

I thing the young have had a lot of bad press, and I don’t usually made generalisations, but they so often seem to be the ones not to bother. I know plenty of older people are e empty due to medical problems. But seriously, have respect guys, wear a mask to protect other people. We are wearing masks to protect you

Completely agree with you, tigha. Worth catching one of Nicola Sturgeon’s TV briefings from Edinburgh to see how she constantly reinforces the “protecting yourself protects everybody” message, in contrast to the shambolic and contradictory messages from BJ and Hancock and their scandalous attempts to throw the blame onto anyone other than themselves.
