Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi, just thought I'd post this as a reminder that we face an election on 12 December, probably the most important for many generations, with extremely long-term implications for all our futures, and, it goes without saying, that if we're not registered, we don't get a vote.

This is especially important for young people between the ages of 18-20 who did not get to have a say about their futures in 2016.

Students should be made aware that they can register twice - both at their university residence and at their family home - though they are only allowed to vote in one location. When it comes to the election itself, this could be of critical importance as decisions can be made about where a student vote will be most effective (eg. a marginal university town constituency).

NB. Registration only takes five minutes. You will be asked for your NI number, though it is, apparently, possible to register without.

If you want to apply to vote by post, you must register before 5pm on 26 November if you live in England, Scotland or Wales.

If you’re going to be abroad on election day, you can apply to vote by proxy after you’ve registered. It takes time to vote by post from overseas.

I found out recently that you are entitled to vote in UK elections if you are a Commonwealth citizen (though I don't think we can vote in theirs...)
