Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As our aging infrastructure creaks & groans precautions are being taken against unwanted consequences. You may have seen on the news occasionally the frightening incidents of exploding manhole covers. It's on Youtube of course.

UK Power Networks, for their part, have their precautions rolling out as we speak. They are putting in place (very luminous yellow) blast covers into each and every connector box. If a blast happens due to a connector melting down because of an overload the blast goes downward due to the cover put into place ... rather than upwards.

Just came across a crew putting them in place in our 'ladder' area. But, the gentleman said, that one's fairly new so should be no problem there.

Makes you wonder though; how quickly and comprehensively is our power network being upgraded so that blast covers will no longer be needed.

Not very quickly, it's the minimum required to meet the standard.

replacing aging infrastructure is not easy without massive disruption.

We should bury a small nuclear reactor under Fairland Park for local power requirements for Harringay. 300MW should be plenty. Crowdfunding anyone?

Not going to fix the ancient cables though

... and park the radiated waste in your metal rubbish bin for collection by Veolia :)

Anyway, back to the phenomenon of exploding manhole covers and the UK's creaking infrastructure ...
