Painted by George Reynold Gill. Anyone recognise what the industrial buildings are in the middle distance towards the left of the picture?

If the church is St Mary's then that could be the gas works? They were built in 1857. More here
I think the chimney might be a stench pipe from the Hornsey municipal yard where they used to incinerate rubbish.
Looks like the pumping station Green Lanes on the right. Far distance middle I would say is St Mary's Church steeple and the building to the left could be the Jewish hospital in Lordship Rd. All the directions seem to be in the correct positions.
Thanks. That's reassuring since it's a painting I bought and have since wondered if it is indeed showing Hornsey!
The link http://www.haringey-heartlands.com/site-history.html came up with a not found message for me: is it right?
Peter, the link was posted 9 years ago, but you can find it on the Wayback Machine at https://web.archive.org/web/20161021202556/http://www.haringey-hear...
The spire in the distance looks like Holy Innocents on Tottenham Lane, which would put the shepherd walking west and the industrial buildings near the railyards.
On the other hand, if the shepherd were walking east, the industrial buildings would be those down Cross Lane and the spire would be St Michaels, Wood Green.
I would suggest that spire is much further away - possibly nearer to central London.
Richard Woods I totally agree with you and thinking about the slop of the land too, and you can't see the west reservoir in this painting either.
The thing I bore in mind when I looked at this picture is that taller little turret poking out of the top of the church tower was and still is at the north West corner of the tower. That gives a clear direction of view from the south west which helps locate things. If I’m writing my assumptions that would make the church in the distance St Michael’s in Wood Green.
