Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Any experience or advice about syncing Google calendars between different devices?

Hi There.

The technology is a beautiful thing and it offers sometimes a very convenient solution but sometimes it is a real nightmare when it comes to syncing a very popular Google calendar between different devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets. There are some busy people which would like to keep all their devices constantly synchronised, especially their calendars.

The only positive experience which I have is synchronising calendar between Apple devices but maybe there are different solutions which somebody could share here.

Different operating systems - Android, Windows and Mac and only one calendar - how to do it?

My wife and I have a shared Google calendar on our Samsung S2 and S4 and it works perfectly. Bit fiddly to set up but synchronises almost immediately and has spared our blushes on double-booking on numerous occasions!

Hi Bushy

Thank you very much for your answer

Your syncing sounds relatively easy as you have two Android devices with Google calendar.

What about adding an Apple device such as iPad and keep syncing your shared Google calendar?

My Blackberry (Z10) does a great job of synching a couple of google calendars and an outlook calendar. I just wish I could find something that worked on my PC as well.

Hi David

Do you mean an application which syncing your calendars with your Outlook?

Hi Marek

It is the native calendar on the blackberry that brings it all together.

I wish I had a PC based app that did this.

I share a Google calendar with workmates across Mac, PC and Android but the calendar is hosted by Google in a Google Apps for Education structure. I know little about how it works but it does. Happy to discuss this further Marek if you want.

Hi, you're not suggesting that the shareholders of each aforementioned should share the cash around - are you?

It's very easy to share a calendar and sync between multiple devices with Google Calendar -- it works out of the box on Android, but on the desktop it's just a matter of opening Google calendar in a web browser. My wife and I have a shared calendar that's always accessible to us both either on mobile or on the desktop.

There are further options if you want to sync with desktop applications - you can sync with Outlook,  Thunderbird or Windows 8 for instance.  We have the same calendar synced across 4 PCs (with 3 instances of Postbox), 2 phones and a tablet, with no problems at all.

There's now no excuse for us ever being double-booked!

Also another nice feature is that you can use Google now -- just do a google search for something like "Remind me to buy some bread at 6pm" on the desktop and the reminder will pop up on your phone. If you have the calendar open in the browser then you'll get the notification there too.
