Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have a 10.5 yo German Shepherd who is unfortunately dog reactive.

I walk her on a lead and manage the situation by distracting her with treats so she does not bark at EVERY dog she sees and ignores most of them allowing for a safe, peaceful and minimum stress walk.

Most people with dogs I meet on our walks (Finsbury Park and Parkland Walk) are very understanding and keep their dogs away/call them when they try to approach us which is very helpful.

Some people do not seem to understand that if a dog is on a lead it is not always ok to allow their dog to run up to that dog. If they are far away themselves and shout from a distance "hey do not worry my dog only wants to play" and make no attempt to call their dog back or come up and get their dog away - this is very difficult to manage.

There is a reason why I keep my dog on a lead and away from dogs we met, this is me being responsible and having control of my dog.

But I can not control other people's dogs.

I am looking to buy (and wear) this gem I have found on ebay:

Perhaps this will be easier then trying to explain to people why it would be nice if they did not allow their off lead dogs run up at full speed into my on lead dog's face when my dog is walking on a lead minding her own business with her ball in her mouth?

My dog is NOT aggressive towards people, she just really does not like other dogs.

There is a FB page for people with dogs like mine - if anyone has the same issue please feel free to join:

Reactive Dogs UK

If you do have a dog, big or small - please keep in mind that even if your dog is super friendly - it is just not ok to allow him or her to run up to a dog that is on lead with a stressed owner on the other end as you do not know why the other dog is on a lead. It may be unwell, fearful or dog reactive or combination of all.

Thanks a lot for reading xx

Below is my old grumpy girl Zara - she always wears a red harness when we are out so easy to spot.

I love that you are so understanding of your dog. Wish more people treated their dogs with the kindness and devotion that you do. Xx
