Anyone know this ginger cat? (It's not the one on the 'lost' post, sorry)

Neutered ginger tom, he's been hanging around our garden at the top of Nelson Road for several weeks and recently I've discovered he has sleeping on the patio chairs, undercover. He's a bit battered (torn left ear and a few scratches on his face) and not too friendly but he seems to have adopted us. I'm not sure I can get him into a basket to go and check for a microchip as he likes to take a swipe! He's asking for food at the back door every day and I am happy to look after him but want to check he is not somebody's.
