Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just a word of warning to be mindful of kids on pedal bikes, especially it seems in the evening. Two friends have had bags stolen in the last week. Once was outside Manor House Tube, another while walking from the tube to Homebase. Be careful!

This gang of youths has been operating in the West Green Rd/Philip Lane area for some weeks now according to our local FB group. Despite repeated reports of muggings and attempted muggings the police have so far been unable to catch them - mainly because the youths are on bikes and the police on foot or in cars :( Most incidents are happening after school/early evening as it gets dark.

There is also a reported increase in burglaries around this area, not necessarily linked, but a worrying trend all the same

I have attached a jpg that is being circulated by one of the N15 Neighbourhood Watch teams so please watch out and report any suspicious behaviour. There must be people out there who would recognise the clothing or bikes of this gang to identify them, even when their faces are covered

Sometimes when I'm feeling a bit lazy or wearing heels I catch the bus from Manor House to Mattison Rd. I've sat at the bus stop and watched the line of people waiting for the bus alongside the road all with their phones out and thought that they would be easy pickings for someone to just cycle past and grab them. On a couple of occasions I've seen what I thought was an attempt to do this but the person on the bike has either lost their bottle or perhaps just testing the water and not followed through. I had my phone swiped a few years ago on Holloway rd by a youth on a bike so I know that it can all happen in a split second without any threat or struggle. On another occasion I was walking down towards Homebase and a youth mounted the pavement on his bike and came very close to me (even though the road was clear) when I was using my phone but for some reason didn't follow through with grabbing it, which makes me think that perhaps they make more attempts than they follow through while they are building up their nerve. I'm certainly more wary now and try not to use it on the street. People do seem to pop up out of the tube and take their phones out automatically to check them, which I think the thieves know and target.
