Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Popular West Green Restaurant, Banc is about to get a baby sister just across the road at the gates to Downhills Park.

Jan and Fabio launched Banc, in the heart of West Green in 2011. Four years on, they are adding a second string to their bow with the opening of Brasserie Banc by the entrance to Downhills Park.

The Banc Brasserie will offer a new spot for locals offering a place to sip a Union hand-roasted coffee, eat a meal or order takeaway.

There will be an official opening ceremony n Friday, 27 November at 4pm with David Lammy and the Mayor of Haringey with light buffet food and refreshments. If you live nearby Jan and Fabio woudl be delighted if you could pop in and join them.

There will be an 'official' opening - why? Many such businesses open every year in Harringay/Haringey who don't get such special treatment.

I went to a leaving do at the Banc Restaurant a couple of years back where everyone paid £20 towards a buffet. OK, it was Christmas time, a typical time unfortunately for some restaurants to fall short on providing good food at reasonable value, especially with buffets & set menus but, Banc took the biscuit. Worst ever. The food was poor, very little effort had gone into variety, quality, quantity and presentation ... well there wasn't any. Spring rolls from a box served in a aluminium tray - not cool. To add to it the drinks were expensive. 1 star.

Many businesses have grand openings, Matt. Some choose not to, but those who do can very often count on the support of local politicians and dignitaries keen to support new businesses. There's no special treatment here as far as I'm aware.

As for your experience of the restaurant, I guess most venues seem to have their fails. However in the interest of balance, it's probably worth my linking to their Trip Advisor page.

I suppose if they organise it and invite people - maybe other businesses don't do so.

I've been a couple of times.  I like the decor.  The food wasn't totally to my taste but I live very close by so the convenience outweighs that.  If I loved the food I would go a lot more often (brunch stuff like avocado on sourdough with poached eggs would get me there on a more regular basis!)

I had lunch at the new brasserie last week and it was great, lovely fresh food, good portions, friendly service.
