Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Bingate - Bins not put back are an advert to burglars...
There have been a spate of burglaries in Harringay, I can't claim this is the reason, but surely it's not rocket science. Any would be burglar can see there might not be anybody home if there are bins left on the path. Especially if the property owner is away or is on holiday and unable to put their bins back for a week or so.
I know there are many other problems with refuse collection- HMO's, purple bags, twice monthly rubbish collection, commercial waste, fly tipping, bulky collection etc etc. But I thought I'd just concentrate on bins not being put back and the associated risk of burglary.
If you'd like to complain because it's an issue on your street I thought it might be helpful to have the correct people to complain to, maybe if everyone complains enough the problem might be resolved...

I am extremely worried that bins left on the pathways of properties on my street -:... are an advert to any passing burglar that there's nobody home. Obviously this poses an even greater risk if the property owner is away and unable to move their bins for a week or so.
Unless the refuse collectors are being given unrealistic times in which to complete their round then I can only conclude that it's just plain sloppy and lazy on their part.
I would like an assurance that this problem is being looked in to as it seems to be a problem with Veolia that is borough wide. Can you tell me what steps will be taken to rectify this problem?

Wow, let's move to Sydney Road. You must have special binmen! I've never seen any bins put back on our road (Pemberton) - they just leave them so you can't even get through the front gate.

Gosh milda you are lucky. Ours are left blocking our pathway and door and often with a trail of its contents thrown around the front garden and down the street. Had to spend time last week scooping up rotten tomatoes left uncollected from the green caddy for a few weeks off our pathway and nappies dropped from the grey bin. As we dont produce very much rubbish in our house im not sure if any of it made it to the lorry.

Our front is a complete mess each time. I have made several complaints and even sent photos. Each time I got some standard reply, but never saw an improvement. Haringey / Veolia don't really seem to have any concern for our local community as far as I can see, but maybe if everyone kept complaining...... No wonder they need PR people....

This is exactly why I got so exasperated that I wrote this post.
Veolia seem incapable of responding to complaints and have completely failed to ensure that their employees are doing their job properly. I'm absolutely fed up of coming home to find my bins thrown into my garden, blocking my path if they even make it that far!
I figure if enough people complain every time it happens then it might eventually have an effect...

my bins please", has become a standard request by neighbours down our
street, when going away, such is the regularity that the bins are left
like this.
Unless the refuse collectors are being given unrealistic times in
which to complete their round then I can only conclude that it's just
plain sloppy and lazy on their part. It is also rather disrespectful
to residents who otherwise make an effort to keep their front gardens
neat and tidy. I have attached a selection of photos taken over the
last few weeks to illustrate this, along with the first images which
shows how operatives will always find our bins arranged.
I have requested of the operatives on several occasions that they
replace the bins as they found them but the problem continues to
occur. I would like an assurance that this problem is being looked in
to as it seems to be a problem with Veolia that is borough wide. Can
you tell me what steps will be taken to rectify this problem?

It would be useful to see if its the Garden's in particular which is bad ( as this is being followed up at the moment) or our area or is it wider and all over the Borough ? or a particular refuse team perhaps ? Interesting Sydney does not have a problem?
Can you say what your road is when commenting to see if there is a pattern here!
I think that it is more noticeable with the Green Wheelie Bins now, where as before with the boxes at least they stacked and the bin operatives would sometimes put yor Green Waste Sack and Food bin in the green box.
Now we come back from work to see 2 wheelie bins scattered Green Waste bags blowing around our front garden and a tossed in food bin in our pathway for good measure?

I'm on Chesterfield Gardens and its bad - if we're lucky they''ll leave them on the front path, but often they're left on the pavement, or even sometimes in the road. Since Veolia got the contract the one place the bins have never been left, is where I left them

Just to mention that I haven't got an @Haringey email address. Never have had as - for various reasons - it's unreliable. But obviously I've seen the posts on this thread and other linked threads.
My thanks to everyone who's raised the issue of bins left on pavements. It was one of the problems seen by the Scrutiny Group - chaired by Cllr Stuart McNamara - who visited locations across Haringey.
As well as a possible "signal" that residents are out, it is also a completely unnecessary extra hazard for people with disabilities - especially blind or partially sighted people.
