Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Britain's First Black Female Football Player Remembered at Alexandra Park

Sports journalist, campaigner and author, Anna Kessel stumbled across the woeful stats on the lack of statues and blue plaques for sportswomen while researching for her book.

To help increase the visibility of these women, Anna teamed up with the Women’s Sport Trust and together they established the Blue Plaque Rebellion.

Currently the new organisation is unearthing the stories of sports women we've never heard of. They will then work with English Heritage, local councils and sports governing bodies an forward proposals to secure blue plaques or statues for some of thee women and changing.

Hornsey local Joyce Rosser snapped the above picture fixed to the rails of Newlands Road by Alexandra Park. This version is made of card, but I suppose the ultimate aim is to get a proper plaque at some point in the future.
