Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Celebrate 5 years of frack-free Britain in Haringey

Come along on Friday 20 May, 4.00-4.30pm outside the Civic Centre. Britain will have had 5 years without any fracking taking place. And we intend to keep it that way (despite government efforts to override local decisions) and these celebrations around the country will show the strength of opposition. Recent research has shown what a massive impact fracking in the USA has had on greenhouse gas emissions.

Joanne McCartney, our GLA member, has just been appointed Deputy Mayor of London, and she has agreed to come along. So this is a great way to highlight the issue and to get it onto the GLA agenda – after all, there have been fracking proposals within the GLA.

Haringey has already taken a strong position in opposing fracking (Joe Goldberg, the responsible cabinet member, has to give his apologies for this event). But it would be great to have your support as councillors as well.

Bring a smartphone if you have one so you can share your photos straight away.

Is there oil-bearing shale under Haringey?.
Well a large part of Haringey was designated for potential fracking in a government geological report a couple of years ago, and there have been proposals in south London.
