Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We have one of those chopping boards which reach from the back of the worktop and are held tight to the front by a dropped lip. Yesterday we found it had bowed quite considerably for no apparent reason. It has been subjected to hot pots, moisture, juices etc on many occasions with no result. It is regularly wiped down with a damp sponge. Nothing different has happened lately. What up? By coincidence we were staying recently in a flat in Seville and left the air con on for three days when we were away. When we returned we found the similar chopping board bowed just the same. We soaked it in water and then placed it under a heavy table leg several times and that seemed to do it! I wonder is it something to do with the fact that both were constructed of glued strips of timber?

Condensation collecting underneath it?

I had the same issue, simply cut and screw on two treated pine 'batons' (1" x 1/4") flatter side down along the underneath of the shorter sides of the board.  Best use brass/stainless well countersunk screws so that you don't scratch or stain your worktop. Although you will be slightly compromising the strength of the board, unless you are chopping up something with an axe it shouldn't be a problem. Mine has lasted at least twelve years like that.
