Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey Libraries join Cityread London this month (April) to consider the theme of disorder, riot and rebellion in the capital.

Every year Cityread choose one book that they ask all Londoners to read and take it as a starting point to look at the themes explored. This year's book is 10 Days by Gillian Slovo, taken from the Tricycle Theatre commissioned play by Slovo called The Riots a dramatic response to the 2011 London Riots, which, of course, began almost on our doorstep before spreading across the capital and eventually to other cities.

Haringey Libraries will be featuring this book in their reading groups and there will be copies of the book in your local library. There is a book display in Stroud Green and Harringay Library on the theme of riot and rebellion.

There is a special event taking place on the 9th April at Muswell Hill Library at 2.30 where local historian Nick Dobson will examine the themes of riot and disorder in the city over the past 900 years. Other events are happening all across the city, including talks by the author and a digital installation at Foyles

Find out more by popping into your nearest library this month.

Shame we don't have a library in Tottenham to host our own reading.

(The planned re-opening date of February 2016 for Marcus Garvey Library was put back to June, now we note that even that date has been scrubbed off the notice on the sealed doors.  So they were either incompetent, or lying.  Either way it will be a whole school year before we get our half-sized library back.)

Yes, I heard via FB that the date keeps being pushed back (just as we predicted at Friends of Libraries tbh). Very troubling.
