Community's New Plans for Development of St Ann's Site Put on Show

Two-thirds of the St Ann’s Hospital site is due to be sold for private housing development, with only 14% of the homes classed as “affordable”. The current proposal takes no account of the needs of local people at a time of severe housing need.

StART is a group of Haringey residents and workers who want to see the St. Ann’s Hospital site used for the good of the community. They say "We want to plan and organise a community-led development with the full participation of local people, to provide genuinely affordable homes and other facilities that respond to local needs".

Last year hundreds of local people took part in the group's survey to say what they want to see happen to the St Ann’s site. The top priority was for homes that local people can afford to rent or buy, closely followed by health services, green spaces and community facilities.

The results showed overwhelming support for the idea that local people are best placed to say what’s needed and to take a lead in the site’s redevelopment and management. Based on these results and the ideas developed in three consultation meetings, StART's team of architects have come up with the next set of draft plans which the group now want to to share and discuss with the wider local community.
