Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This in from the Council this morning:

Residents are being invited to share their ideas for improvements to a community centre under Haringey Council plans to transform the building into a modern arts and culture hub.

Consultation on the future of the Chestnuts Community Centre, in St Ann’s Road, begins on Monday, with community groups, voluntary organisations and residents being given an opportunity to have their say on future designs.

The council wants to repair and refurbish the building – parts of which are in a poor condition and badly deteriorating – to give local groups better space for clubs, activities and meetings.

The centre was due to close temporarily for repair work at the end of the year, but after feedback from users, will now stay open while any improvement work takes place.

South Tottenham charity The Bridge Renewal Trust, which runs other community spaces and activities in Haringey, will manage the centre on an interim basis while the consultation takes place.

Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: “Community and voluntary groups play a crucial role across our borough, and we want to support that with a better Chestnuts that provides the high-quality space and facilities that they deserve.

“We want to hear from as many local people as possible about what improvements they’d like to see in a modern, revamped centre, and I’d urge residents to come and have their say.”

“We’ve listened to feedback from regular users of the centre and put in place interim arrangements to ensure their activities can continue while repair work and consultation takes place.

Residents can find out more and have their say by visiting www.haringey.gov.uk/chestnutsyoursay or by joining consultation events at the centre on:

Monday, 8th December 2014, 1-4pm

Wednesday, 10th December 2014, 10am-1pm

Saturday, 24th January 2015, 11am-2pm

Any essential temporary closures for health and safety reasons during the repair work will be kept to a minimum, with advance notice given to users to help reduce disruption to activities.

Why are all the consultation events during the day? Surely that's not very I cluster ad doesn't give the whole community the chance to have a say?
