Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

TooTooMoo - full-on Asian street food in the heart of Crouch End

Last night Crouch End's newest eaterie offered a few lucky guests a peek behind the curtains and a taste of an eclectic cornucopia of Asian streetfoood.

Phillip McGuiness has set out to create a slice of Asian streetlife in the heart of Crouch End. He wants to capture the flavours and something of the vibe of the Asian street hawker markets so loved by us all when we travel to Asia.

Last night we were treated to a grand feast, running from a duck and watermelon salad, through chicken satay and sambal prawns, to green chicken curry, 'Shaking Beef' Bo Luc Lac and Salmon Miso. I'm something of an Asian foodie. So it was no struggle for me to sit down to a feast of Asian streetfood. Whilst all the dishes we tried were tasty, my personal favourites were the satay and sambal. Perhaps that's where Malaysian Chef Ricky Pang, really gets into his stride, or perhaps it's because, my Malaysian partner has trained my palette to linger longer over those flavours. However, whichever Asian street your palette takes down at TooTooMoo, you'll have plenty of choice.

Phillip and his team have also worked hard to create the take-us-as-you-find-us environment of the Asian street market, from the decor to the street market food stall. So when you've finished eating, or as you're popping in for your takeaway, you can stock up from a range of Asian condiments and other ingredients on sale.

Opening on Crouch Hill later this week, TooTooMoo should be a welcome addition to Crouch End's street food. The official 'open to all' opening night is on Friday, but I sense that Phillip's trigger finger is getting itchy. So, swing by any time from today and you may just find he's thrown open the doors for an hour or two and you can grab a taste before the crowds arrive.

Sneak peek at the menu on the attached iPhone snap.

Thanks to Phillip and Ricky for last night and best of luck for Friday.

(Excuse the photo quality of the pics in this post, but I'm working on iPhone only power for a while!)
