Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Walking in DC this afternoon and noticed a metal detectorist complete with trowel digging into the grass. Although I suspect he will recover little more than ring-pulls and not the long lost treasure of Laurence Duket, is he going against the by-laws?.

You never know a Medieval gold ring was found close to the Queen's Head (Dogtas) in the 19th century. It's now in the British Museum.

WOW - I didnt know about that little nugget of history.

Well it wasnt me :)

And if they are a decent detectorist, like myself, they will record anything of note to the PAS or let the local museum know about it.

As for by-laws, there is no direct by-law against metal detecting, but there is for digging......not that that seems to apply for anything else (esp if its about making money).

The important thing is, was they filling their holes and making it safe for the public and wildlife?

He had a JCB (joke), he was lifting the grass with a trowel,  I didn't stand and watch but I'm sure he would have put the divots back.

As for the ring, so that must have been an honest workman to hand that in.
