Dubious sounding collections for Children in Need...

Hi all

I'm on Sydney Road - we have builders in at the moment and they have left a couple of things out the front of our house, a man just knocked on the door asking if he could clear it - said he was from the council and they were clearing the front of gardens for Children in Need - I said no as it sounded a bit dubious - anyone else had this happen to them?
