Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Emergent Finsbury Park Neighbourhood Forum in Harringay Land Grab

One of the leading members of the emergent Finsbury Park Neighbourhood Forum has been in touch with me this week to let me know that the group is currently eying part of Harringay and all of Finsbury Park for inclusion within its boundaries.

Do we really want our neighbours being such a key influence over what's been Harringay for over a hundred years?

(we've received about 30 responses of 'I live in Harringay and it's not Finsbury Park' in the last hour or so, so this seems to be working for you...)

Arkady could you tell me have I missed the point. My understanding of the F.P.A.G. is that it is a community group that will have members from all boroughs that Finsbury Parks surrounding areas cover.(I will not make the mistake of mentioning post codes again). This group will help lobby concils and update members on what developments are in the pipeline that might affect them. This collaboration may help stop stuff like high-rise blocks being built on the edge of the park, approved by one borough counsel when it effects the residents of all 3 boroughs. Is this right or not. If this is what the group is set up to do, I cannot see why people are so upset about this and why we would pay more tax. Personally I think that community collaboration is a good thing, however I had not realised that it is so non u to say you live in Finsbury Park.

Yes that's about right, though I don't understand the second half of your final sentence. The only difference that I'd emphasise is that the planned forum is for the neighbourhood of Finsbury Park - as defined by the people who live there, not the park. Nor is the neighbourhood defined by the park - we discussed early on how large London parks are usually surrounded by multiple neighbourhoods, and that this was the case (as has been shown by the survey) in Finsbury Park too.

Arkady. U = upper class, ie posh

Non-U = Middle class, ie not posh but pretentious.

As defined by the vocabulary used.

" Napkin " is U: " Serviette " is not.

Knightsbridge would be U: Brixton probably a Non-U address. ( although I'm sure it's a lovely place to live  )

My postcode is N4 and I'm 2 doors from The Salisbury.

And have lived on Grand Parade, Harringay for 32 years now.

Maybe we leave postcodes out of this...

My wife tells everyone we live in South Tottenham.

As a Gooner I say we live in north Arsenal :)

Norf Arsenal???? Blimey, that's stretching the boundaries to breaking point.
Does that make Finbury park Highbury gardens?

The latest iteration of the survey results, with the first iteration of the proposed 'Finsbury Park and Stroud Green Neighbourhood Forum' boundary, can be found at the link below. The results from the ladder area were overwhelmingly against defining Harringay as part of Finsbury Park. There's still plenty of work to do to refine the boundary though.
