Falling object this afternoon
Hi all,
did anyone see an object that seemed to fall down this afternoon? From the picture I took it seems to burn.

It was taken in the afternoon and the clouds in bottom corner are pink so it looks like the sun is setting. Whatever it is, is moving toward the setting sun so is travelling west. So it could be the vapour trail of an aircraft at very high alttititude. Travelling in that direction it would appear to be falling because of the curvature of the earth. Or a meteorite skimming the atmosphere where the vapour trail is being illuminated because of the angle of the light from the sun. Problem with that it would have to be a big one to be visible burning up for more than a few seconds so probably would have been seen and reported pretty widely.
If you zoom into the similar pictures AndA links to, you can see two vapour trails emerging and then coming together so I would suggest something military flying very high. Or David Mellor looking for a cab.

So fellow Mulder and Scully's to add to your speculation there was some sort of glinting object(s) - large shiny advert balloon(s)/ blimp floating north to south over Alexandra Palace at 12noon yesterday. It was too far away and I had no binoculars to identify further. However would definitely go with the UFO line.

And I'm sure this line brings hope to many local women...
