Birthday Bash - Celebrate the history of Bruce Castle on the 110th anniversary of the opening of Bruce Castle Museum this half term

Wednesday 26 October Victorian Greetings
Find out about the Penny Post system and the very first postage stamp and design your own card and stamp to celebrate 110 years of Bruce Castle Museum.


Thursday 27 October Fun and Games
Discover the history of the Coleraine family, residents of Bruce Castle in the 17th Century; see if you can find the Coleraine coat of arms where the museum mascot Wilbur lives. Party games and use split pins to make your own Wilbur with detachable tail.

Friday 28 October Tudor Merriment
Discover the Tudor origins of Bruce Castle and help us celebrate in style by creating a Tudor headdress or jester hat.


Sunday 30 October Ghostly Goings On...
Explore the story of the ghost of Bruce Castle and make a ghostly puppet.

All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. No adult admitted without an accompanying child.

Sessions are supervised by a facilitator

Battle Bus - London Transport Museum
1.30 - 4pm
London Transport Museum brings an original and restored First World War Battle Bus to Bruce Castle to celebrate the launch of their exhibition From Tottenham to the Trenches - a community exhibition co-curated by young volunteers to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

What’s on?
· Jump on board the London Transport Museum’s restored First World War B-type bus
· Hear pop up performances of original poetry created by young volunteers
· Meet characters from the First World War
· Handle objects and try on replica First World War uniforms with Antiques Roadshow expert Andy Robertshaw
· Find out more about the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and London Transport Museum’s Battle Bus project.

You can also take part in Battle Bus inspired free family activities, just drop in between 1.30 - 4pm:
Make your very own Battle Bus – the London bus that went to war.
Create a collage - cut, colour and stick to create your own Battle Bus collage.
