Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Started in Oxford nearly a decade ago Free Cakes for Kids is  a community service to families who find it difficult to provide a birthday cake for their child.

A Haringey branch was established two years ago by Bruce Grover Gabby Ogiste, and Wood Green local Rose Orlik. They have since been joined by a team of 25 local volunteer bakers.

The baking duo connect with local cakeless kids through referrals from schools, children’s centres and charities.  A volunteer then takes on a project, usually funding it themselves. The pay-off for the floury-fingered locals is the heart-warming stories they get of the impact their baking has on the kids they work for.

You can meet Gabby and Rose this Saturday at The Tottenham Flower and Produce Show in Lordship Recreation Ground where they’ll be fund-raising by selling slices of cake. (Mmmmm!) It’s also an opportunity for potential baking volunteers to make step-up as well as for referral partners to introduce themselves.
