Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A letter just dropped through y door asking for feedback. Here is mine:

"I hope the council considers the permanent closure of Wightman Road. Gradually commuters and long-distance drivers are realising they need to either use alternative main roads, or switch to public transport or cycling. The study shows that residents overwhelmingly do not own a car (61%), and prefer public transport, walking or cycling for their commute (82%)."

Public transport has ground to a halt due to the closure of Wightman Road..... the vast majority of us commute by public transport and I can't wait for Wightman Road to reopen

That is because improvements to Green Lanes and other areas have not been implemented.

And until such "improvements" materialise, we need Wightman Road back in operation

I totally agree with you Antoinette. I received the letter yesterday and sent my comments to the council.

The arguments against this have been made on other threads, the decision to implement filtering was made following expert discussion. The missing link has been to introduce changes to Green Lanes (parking, bus lanes etc) and other filtered areas surrounding Wightman Road.

We need more roads! Antoinette can't get to where she's going. I need her to get there, we all do.

Logically this means opening up Hermitage Rd, the Gardens, Harringay Rd etc etc.

Great idea.

Surely opening up roads that I assume residents have fought long and hard to achieve will solve nothing as it will inevitably attract more traffic into the area, hack people off and divide our community!

Don't you think I ought to be able to get to where I'm going...?  I need to get my child to and from school, and I need to earn a living, and be a productive member of society.... or maybe we should all sit at home and not clog up the roads?

Obviously we all need efficient transport systems, but logically to speed up the flow of cars means opening up Hermitage Rd, the Gardens, Harringay Rd etc etc. As John says, the more [open] roads the better, from your perspective?

Well if I complain about not being able to get my children to school the usual response is that I should send them to a local school. If we all sat at home and didn't clog up the roads (so park elsewhere too) the children would take them back.
