Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This looks like a really successful initiative and has been heavily twittered over the weekend.Encouraging play and activity in a time when report after report bemoans the lack of physical activity in children's lives is to be applauded.

It would be even better if the council undertook to nsure that the existing provisions were adeqauately resourced. Yesterday morning - as on most Sunday mornings - we pitched up at Albert Rd rec to set up for mys son's football match. This involved inspecting the pitches for the least pot-holed surface as the groundsman has not had new sand since the last batch ran out in September. We then had to fit the nets, which don't have clips or any means of being secured - I buy my own and take them along with a set of tent pegs to secure them and the corner poles lack points and there are no holes to fit them into and so we have to dig them ourselves.

yes, football is a 17th century game, but should we still be expecting kid's teams to play in 18th century conditions ?

For £50  there could be a set of steps, and bags of clips and pegs, and a sack of sand for patching worn areas.

Would this not be an easy win for the council - or is the priority  social media campaigns of box-ticking campaigns and schemes ?
