Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi everyone,

I need some advice on how to get my car running again. I had it for 5 years and use it every weekend and I never had any problems starting it. However, this weekend it just wouldn't start. I changed the battery over 3 years ago, not sure if that's to blame.

Long story short, I would need a mechanic to come look at it and replace the battery, if needed.

I live around Bruce Grove and my local garage don't do home repairs (I can't take the car to them since it won't start).

Any advice?

Thanks a lot!

You can expect a battery to last only about three years. The cold weather won't have helped.

Don't you have a friend who could give you a jump start and then you go to Halfords in Tottenham Hale shopping centre. They will sell you a new battery and fit it if required.

Ask a friend or neighbour for jump leads to connect to another car's battery.

Once connected you will learn if your batter is poor or if there is a mechanical problem.

If you engine starts fine, you know the battery is at fault.

The recent cold weather could have affected your battery.

If the alternator is faulty, it will not charge the battery as you drive.

Careful with using jump leads on modern cars. I used jump leads a few years back and it did for my whole instrument panel. It may be okay on your car - but check; instrument panels are VERY expensive!

Thanks all! I agree with Hugh and I found a company that can come over and fit the battery at home. Yaay!
