Jazz at The Salisbury Presents - Sunday the 6th of Sep - The Josh Arcoleo Trio

This Sunday we have an amazing Josh Arcoleo Trio .featuring Josh on sax,James Maddren on Drums and Mick Coady on bass. It will be excellent.

Born into a musical family in 1989 Josh was lucky enough to start saxophone lessons with the legendary Pee Wee Ellis when he was 13. At 18 he gained a place on the renowned jazz course at the Royal Academy of Music - where he graduated with a 1st class degree in 2011, that year also winning a Yamaha Parliamentary Jazz Scholarship and the Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize. The latter being a recording contract with Edition Records. Josh's debut album 'Beginnings' was released in February 2012 to widespread critical acclaim. He has also received awards from the EMI Music Sound Foundation and MBF Young Talent, and was recently nominated for the Jazz FM awards in the best newcomer category. Josh was also nominated for a 2012 London Jazz Award.

He began touring with Pee Wee when he was 16 with his ' Assembly' and the 'Still Black Still Proud' band. With these bands Josh toured regularly throughout Europe for the next three years.

As well as leading his own quartet, which features Ivo Neame (piano) Calum Gourlay (bass) and James Maddren (drums), Josh is a regular member of bands including Stan Sulzmann's big band, Jeff Williams' UK Quartet, Dave Hamblett's Sextet (debut album out Jan 2013 on Whirlwind Records) Mike Chillingworth's Sextet, And Plays in a group with Nikki Iles, Steve Watts and Jeff WIlliams. In 2011 he also toured with Kit Downes' band to showcase Kit's 'Quiet Tiger' album.


Josh is also a member of 'the Rhino Horns', a three piece horn section with James Gardiner-Bateman on alto and WIlliam Rixon on trumpet. the Rhino's are currently touring with Joss Stone, with whom they have travelled to Europe, United States, South America and Asia. They have also played alongside Michael Kiwanuka, Katy B, Lianna La Havas, Ghostpoet, amongst others.

Josh has worked with many established musicians/bands including Jason Rebello, Fred Wesley, Mark Mondesir, Michael Mondesir, Tony Allen, Ginger Baker, David Binney, John Hebert, John O'Gallagher, Duane Eubanks, Tony Royster Jnr, Raymond Angry, Ricky Jordan, Linley Marthe, James Taylor Quartet, David Berkman, Cheikh Lo, Peter Madsen, Get the Blessing, Friendly Fires, Vanessa Freeman, Tony Remy, Jamie Cullum, Guido May, Gareth Williams, Patrick and Martin Scales and has studied with some great players/teachers - Nick Smart, Iain Ballamy, Barak Schmool, Martin Speake and Pete Churchill to name just a few.
