Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This male ginger cat called Gingypuss has been reported as lost since 21st December from Hanley Rd/Grenville Rd N4. No collar. 19 to 20 years old. Some tufts of hair coming out.

Fortunately his owner sensibly got him neutered and microchipped. (Hopefully his owner has checked that the microchip company has owner's correct contact details).

His owner has put details on Animal Search

You're right to highlight this Anka and I'm glad that you sensibly checked your pets' microchips and made sure your contact details are correct.

It's so important that pet owners check that the microchip company has their correct contact details. Every pet owner with a microchipped pet should have a registration certificate with the microchip details, confirming that the microchip is registered with the owner's correct contact details. For most of the microchip companies, such as Pettrac, Anibase, Petlog, the owner can check their info online, provided they have their password.

To any pet owner out there who is unsure, get your vet to scan your pet for free so that you can keep a record of your pet's 15 digit microchip number and microchip company. You can enter your pet's chip number here to find out your microchip company if you don't know. Then contact the microchip company to check they have your correct details. With most microchip companies, you can access your details online (with password), so make sure the online record is correct and update it when you move house.

A microchip is useless if the microchip company does not have owner's correct contact details on their database. There are many microchipped pets where the owners' details have never been registered so it's vital to check. Microchip guide here
I think I've read that about 40% of people who have microchipped pets, haven't made sure that the microchip company has their correct contact details or forget to update the microchip company when they move home. For dog owners, it is a legal offence if the microchip database record does not show your current contact details and it's just as important for cat owners. Plus pets which are not neutered and not microchipped are at risk of being put down as there are so many homeless animals.
