Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Magpies - how to discourage them from coming into my garden?

I never knew I can actually start hating any birds BUT recent visits from magpies at insane o'clock in the morning and the noise they make right outside my window is driving me insane.

On top of that - they are picking on one of my cats and literally harass him in the garden. On top of that they follow him around and realised he somehow (no idea how) got to the front garden yesterday and today by hearing that horrid noise they make at my front window, looking out and seeing my poor cat there and 2 magpies shouting at him.

No idea how the cat got to the front (separate issue to investigate) but they literally follow him. There is 2 of them.

Any ideas how to shut them up? 4am is definitely not the time I want to be woken up by those buggers.

Birds singing is one thing (and nice) but those buggers' noise is something quite different - and I mean literally less than 2 metres from my bedroom window.

Helppppp - how to discourage them from coming?????

Like David says this sounds like an alarm call. Given it starts early it could also be foxes they're getting agitated about. A few years ago we had an insane one that used to peck at its own reflection every morning at a window at the back of our house. Frantic waving helped a bit. Sounds like you might need a hawk for hire!
My mum recently had an Astro turf lawn put down. Long story. As soon as it was finished she had magpies pulling bits from it up. She got a fake owl and had it put up in in the garden. Magpies have now scarpered!

Decoy Owls

I remember a seafaring friend of mine very effectively using decoy owls to keep gulls off the mast of his yacht - gotta be worth a go
