That's horrific!
Does anyone know if this was in the actual park or on Downhills Park Road? The article is unclear.

I was out walking my dog around 7am on the morning after the incident and only the Italian Gardens were cordoned off by police tape. I think thats where the stabbing took place. There was one (ford fiesta) police car and one police man! As we were leaving the park 3 police officers arrived on foot, chatting and laughing so i assumed there was nothing serious and maybe they were just doing a ground search or something. Couldn't believe it when i heard... and apparently later on that morning they closed the whole park. Feel amazed i was allowed to walk right by the crime scene with no police presence!  To be honest, i would never sit or even WALK in a dark park. It gets dark at 4.30pm at the moment and there is NO lighting whatsoever in the park.

I would never take my smartphone into Downhills park when walking my dog. If I need a phone on me I take an old basic Nokia. A woman posted something on here only 2 or 3 months ago when she was mugged at knife point in Downhills at around the same time of evening (& and that was in broad daylight! ).
The police need to step up their presence in the park and the lighting should be improved. How bad does it need to get before they will take some action?

It was me that was mugged in the park in August, at about the same time (though as you say it was broad daylight) and in a similar spot.

I am utterly horrified by this latest attack! Although I was shaken by what happened to me I was unharmed and had persuaded myself that it was just a one-off, wrong place wrong time thing. But this new incident is so worrying as it does seem that the park (and surrounding streets?) is becoming less safe. Hoping the victims are well supported and make a full recovery.
