Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Work will begin next month on £250,000 outdoor sports facilities on Ducketts Common.

It marks the second stage of a plan to upgrade Duckett's Common devised by the park's Friends group.

As we announced on our Twitter stream last month, the plans recently won almost £99,000 from Sport England’s Inspirational Facilities Fund  as well £50,000 from both the Mayor of London and the Big Lottery Fund.

Two of the three existing basketball courts will be refurbished, and a separate fenced-off area made for netball, football and volleyball.

There will also be an outdoor gym, the second of its kind in Haringey after Finsbury Park, and an all-weather table tennis table.

Work gets underway in February and is due to be completed by April.

The first stage of the regeneration scheme was completed last year with the unveiling of a second children’s playground.

The final stage of the plans - improvement of the park’s northern entrance area with a plaza - will follow.

ooh la la! I like Duckett's Common

Great news, well doen to the Friends of Duckett's Common. Very intrigued by the the sound of the all weather ping pong!

Springfields Park has one, as well as all weather chess seats and table. They are fab and look a bit like installations. Theyre at the bottom of the hill near the river. And if you haven't been to Springfields Park... well... you'd better go !

I found this for the first time on Sunday. It's good to see, but I wish they had not built it right at the bottom of the hill as the ground there is always really soggy, so once it gets used it will become a mudbath.

Outdoor sports facilities etc. are all very well but what about chess players, crossword enthusiasts, crocheters, aspiring writers, balloon-animal sculptors, spectrograph analysts, bassoonists, amateur astronomers and such like?  Seems biased towards the gymnastic arts to me.

this is great, I am so happy that cuts have not shelved these plans.
