Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

re my earlier question about NHS appointments constantly postponed or cancelled;  (I queried whether this is because I am ancient)    several people responded with similar experience      I'm really annoyed as have just had another call to say 'rheum' clinic date cancelled    I had hoped for help with my horrible gout      is it inefficiency?  ageism?    what?

It may be a sneaky way of making sure they meet some sort of target? They offer an appointment within x timeframe to meet a target and then cancel it?

how inhuman if true!

My Dad's knee replacement op was cancelled 3 times( he is 70). The last time he was gowned up and had the markings on his knee! He was fourth time lucky. Paradoxically, my 20 year old son suffered a break to his ankle which didn't repair properly so 6 weeks later, with just one days notice, he had another operation. He was told that if he'd been 65 or over, they wouldn't have bothered.

that is appalling    who told him that?I hope he is all right now?

He is making progress, thanks for asking :-) He was told this by the orthopaedic surgeon at the (un named) local hospital. The risk to my son was that arthritis would set in and affect his mobility for life...but still...

do you mind if I make a suggestion?   after a rather horrific motorbike crash 26 years ago, I was told that arthritis would set in if I didn't do the hand exercises    to my enormous surprise, I have actually done them regularly and I had no problem until gout attacked me recently     can you make sure he gets the right guidance and then does the exercises?    I wish him well

Thank you Sally, i'll discuss physio at our next appointment.
Hope you get sorted out soon, Sally. Very best wishes x

thank you   you are more hopeful than I am

further to above: both my rheum and my thoracic clinic appts at the Whittington have been postponed until December   in both cases, I have had 2 copies of each letter and in the latter case the 2 letters give me different dates in December and neither mentions the lung appt which is usually half an hour after the thoracic clinic   is that postponed too? cancelled? or what?

a senior NHS manager tells me I am right- the NHS is ageist   the frequent mistakes made in appts are because the  staff are on minimum pay!
