If you love performance and music, please join us for what promises to be an interesting and lively evening focusing on the role and future of culture and leisure in Finsbury Park.

Date and time: Monday, 16 January 2017 at 7.00-8.30pm
Venue: Studio Suite, Rowan's Leisure Centre, 10 Stroud Green Road, London N4 2DF

Speakers Melli Bond from the Park Theatre, and Hayley Squires from the former live music venue Silver Bullet, will introduce the topics of performance and music in Finsbury Park, with open discussion and ideas to follow.

Once the home of a fine theatre, the Finsbury Park Empire, and three early cinemas at the turn of the twentieth century, Finsbury Park was for many years a cultural desert when these venues were eventually closed down. Residents in the area would have to travel to the Angel or the West End to see theatrical performance or to hear concerts or live musical gigs. But the tide has turned and Finsbury Park is fast becoming a cultural destination in its own right. The arrival of the Park Theatre in 2013, founded by Artistic and Creative Directors Jez and Melli Bond, has had an enormous impact. Located adjacent to the station, at the hub of Finsbury Park, the theatre is firmly on the local cultural map. The Park Theatre has also played an important role in promoting culture in the community.

Music has also been at the heart of Finsbury Park, at the local pubs and clubs, and most recently at the well-known, much-loved Silver Bullet music venue run by Hayley Squires. The Silver Bullet closed down this year, and is much missed, but Hayley has not gone anywhere; she is bursting with ideas on how to revive live music in Finsbury Park and the surrounding area. Melli Bond will be speaking on the role of the Park Theatre in the community and her vision for the future; Hayley Squires will inform us on her latest projects post-Silver Bullet and her new ideas for live music in the community. The floor will then be open for discussion, and for ideas to come from the community itself.

The aim of the evening is to gather and collate ideas for potential inclusion in a developing Finsbury Park Neighbourhood Plan. This is a plan where the local people have a say in what they would like to see retained and developed in their area to ensure its role in the vibrancy, diversity and success of a place, providing opportunities for different parts of the community.

We welcome as many as possible to be part of this process, so please pass on this invitation to groups or individuals that you think might be interested in this event.  If you use Facebook, you can indicate your attendance and invite others through our Facebook event:
