Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm looking for  a plummer who can come and investigate a blocked drain.

The sink in my bathroom and kitchen take ages to drain away and I've tried everything to solve the problem with out success.

Can anyone recommend someone trustworthy and  reasonably priced?

thanks

Susan

Put a bowl under the sink (the cupboard under the sink. Take the U bend out, some water will drip into the bowl. Clean it in the bath (it will be disgusting). Then take a look up the exposed pipe and I bet you see a nice big plug of fat which you can hoik out with a spoon.

It's both the kitchen and the bathroom John. I would think the blockage is farther down.

I've fixed both a bathroom and a sink problem and they were both unrelated. You can work it out by seeing how much you can pour down it before it backs up.

You sometimes find you get a plug of gunk in the pipe somewhere from the plug to where it drains out of the house- I have a rod thing that will possibly help if you are willing to give it a go yourself.

There is normally an inspection screw top type element to the drains where they bend as they exit the house, and you can usually open this up and put the rod in there. If you have the U-bend off you can also get to it from the inside. Let me know, happy for you to borrow it.

If the bathroom and kitchen sinks both drain out to the same pipe, Justin's suggestion is a good one. Often it can be as simple as grease and solid waste from the kitchen sink forming a plug at the lowest point where the waste water pipes exit the house to the sewer. It'll could save quite a few quid to try that first

I have had exactly this problem before, and it is usually simply  plug of hair and gunk at some point in the drain... nasty but cheap to fix. :-)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I usually can unblock the kitchen sink with a plunger but not the bathroom. I've tried all kinds of sink unblockers and I've unscrewed the U bend and that's not blocked so it must be further down. It takes ages for the water to drain away so i reckon I need to call in  a  plummer.

Before you pay a plumber 200 quid to wipe his feet on your doormat, try good length of curtain wire/cord and push it through from the u-bend (removed).

worth having a look outside. Try to find the drain cover where both waste pipes vent. could be just a matter of clearing debris. Follow the pipes as they run outside and down.

no you are quite wrong. It can and will.

If you think it's s drain blockage, I ve used this company and recommended them many times, and all delighted. They re v good and reasonable 2 man teams, directly employed by a family company. They re normally there for half an hour and sort the whole job. Ask for a quote over the phone first.
