Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Refugees At Home is a newish effort to try and match destitute asylum-seekers and refugees to generous hosts who have a spare room (or even, in an emergency, a spare sofa bed)

We have quite a lot of people offering to be hosts but not enough of them are near where most of our potential guests are. We have a particular need for hosts in London and, even more specifically in and around Haringay.

Could you take in a refugee and make them welcome for a shorter or longer time? Could you help those who have fled conflict and oppression and will otherwise be homeless?

If you would like to know more, please look at our website www.refugeesathome.org or at the facebook page, Refugees at home or email info@refugeesathome.org

Many thanks

I think that's hard as the latest immigration law says that if you get ANY money or labour in kind in return for housing, you have to enquire about immigration status, see their papers  and become responsible. But this absolutely doesn't apply to generous/altruistic hosts who are treating people wholly as their guests.

We are really, really lucky in having fab pro bono lawyers (Travers Smith)advising us and they have gone through every form etc ensuring we make that clear.

Great idea Sara. I know how desperately difficult it is to house refugees. Have sent for info

Philip

Thanks Philip. I'm having an email crisis (in that it doesnt work) but one of the team will send you a host application form in the next 24 hours I would think.

If you want to know more, my brother and sister-in-law and their guest Ahmad will be live on GMTV talking about their experiences as host and guest.

But rather early - about 0630!

Hi Philip

Email now tickety-boo. Did you ever get a host form sent to you?

info@refugeesathome.org and I can send by return.
