Regarding 08, 09 and 118 phone numbers

SayNoTo0870  is your friend.  They usually find an alternative landline number for you. I don't think I've ever called an 0870 number - if I can't find a landline, I don't call them.

"Search on an expensive 0842, 0843, 0844, 0845, 0870, 0871, 0872 or 0873 number to find an inclusive or geographic rate 01, 02 or 03 number or a free 0800 or 0808 number."

I have used them in the past, before I realised I had the free version, but I often came across numbers that didn't have an ordinary alternative. It's really going to mess up my phone bills. At the moment all the numbers I call are free so I have a set amount I pay for the phone bill each month. Now I'll have to keep an eye on it and maybe top it up now and then.
