Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Wow! Haringey council's regeneration plans are working,

A large Poundland is opening in the new building where we once had a lovely period parade of shops that housed the post office and that was burnt out during the riots....

And a large Sports Direct is replacing the Carpet Right on the High Road opposite 639. See my pix attached, taken this week as I went to wowrk at 04h30.

The large national retail chains will definitely bring some uplift! ? * &%$@x.

But maybe I am just a snob.

AAAAND they bring bring lots of lovely zero-hours jobs too. Just what we need in Tottenham. Sometimes Workfare hours too, a free opportunity for lovely practice for zero-hours work.

T'Council can't be credited for the SportDirect coup though, as I guess it still belongs to 'Lord' Harris of Harrisownsalltheschoolsintheworld, so up to him who he installs.

Lovely parade of period shops? A slight exaggeration I fear. More like Regency houses, bastardised in victorian times and run down ever since and eventually burnt down.

I accept the point you are making, but feel you are being a bit unfair. On my last visit to Tottenham High Road (in 2014), I felt it hadn't looked so good for a long time.

I can never remember these retail outlets, or the buildings themselves, ever looking as good in the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s.. even though the new windows are dreadful and should never have been allowed. So yes, there is, in my view, a bit of snobism going on.
