Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Did anyone else see the route masters on Green Lanes today? I was cycling home and was very excited to see one in front of me. I was disappointed not to get a photo but luckily my daughter not only got some photos but actually rode on one.

That's not a Routemaster. It's 'even better''; it's an RT, the generation before the Routemaster. What fun.

Stephen posted a picture of the view from the top deck of a Routemaster today here.

Yes, I thought it was older than the routemasters. I did see one and my daughter got a photo of that too but I couldn't add it to the original post for some reason. Wish I had seen the RT, looks fabulous.

Sad to say, this is not a Routemaster on Green Lanes. This is one of the previous generation of Double Deckers that were the norm in London before Routemasters were introduced in the late 1950s. It looks like one used on the old Green Line routes that are now long gone. Even so, it's a very unusual sight to see in 2016.

Oh dear, clearly I don't know my routemasters as well as I thought. It was still a wonderful sight and made my day. I also suspect they had been brought back into service to cover for the Piccadilly line tube sight.

We saw that beautiful green one first thing in the morning on GL - I'm so glad to see it kept going all day!

I think John probably means the green one. Karen. I'm no transport buff, but I'm pretty.sure that the red you snapped is indeed a Routemaster.

They may look like 1950s style John, but the first RT entered service just before the outbreak of WW2 in 1939. The first batch of 150 were in service by 1940. The number in stock reached it's peak in 1954 - 6739!!

So RT = Regent?

That's it Hugh, Regent Three  = RT

Opinion is divided, some say RT = Regent Type, but most say Regent Three.

Well you loyn something evriday!

Why were they cruising GL?!
