In the Inbox via Pauline Syddell, Community Neighbourhood Watch Link Manager, a scammer trying to gain entry by pretending to be from a bona fide company.
A Neighbourhood Watch coordinator in Stroud Green was approached outside his home by a male in a florescent jacket claiming to be a roofer. He said that he had come to investigate damp on the roof, and showed an ID card. The coordinator checked with neighbours who confirmed that none of them had called a roofer.
After turning the ‘roofer’ away, our coordinator turned detective and looked up the name of the company shown on the ID card and found a company of the same name based in Harrow. He phoned and spoke to the owner who confirmed that the ‘roofer’ had nothing to do with his company and also stated that someone had phoned him from the Islington area last week with a similar story.
