St Paul's Church has been shortlisted in a competition to find the UK’s best modern church.

St Paul the Apostle, in Wightman Road, is now in the running to win the Best Modern Church architecture competition.

It is one of 24 churches which have been shortlisted in the contest run by the National Churches Trust, The Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association and the 20th Century Society.

From the shortlist, judges will pick the top ten and award a ‘National Churches Trust Diamond Jubilee Architecture’ prize to the top three.

The ceremony to honour the top places of worship built in the last 60 years will be held at Lambeth Palace on November 7, 2013.

The awards will be presented by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

This is brilliant news! (I have to admit I'm biased because I'm the organist...)

If you've never seen the inside of this unique building, there is a fantastic opportunity coming up on Saturday, 26 October, when we have a Music on the Ladder concert at 7.30 pm, which will be solo viola music performed by Emma Alter - we'll post separately with more details shortly, but put the date in your diaries!

Bethany, Do you happen to know if the church is planning a children's christingle / nativity service in December and what the date / time would be?

Hi Woody!  Yes, there is a Christingle service on Sunday, 15 December.  I'm not sure of the time off the top of my head, but it is usually mid-late afternoon (I think it was 4pm last year).  We'll put up all the details of all our Christmas services on this site shortly, including all the times.

Great. Can anyone come along? I have never been to St Paul's or any of the local churches but i went to a Christingle Service last Christmas in Bristol with my Son - he loved it and still talks a lot about it, even now.

Absolutely!  Our doors are always (figuratively, at least) open and the community is very welcoming.  There is a kids' Christmas party after the Christingle service and I've heard a rumour that Father Christmas might be in attendance.  In addition to the Christingle, we'll be having a carol service on Monday, 16 December, in the evening, Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and a Christmas morning service.

Hi Bethany, I have just sent you a connection request so I can talk to you about getting involved in a Christmas community event where we might need a singer or two. Thanks, Anna

Accepted - fire away!

I was baptized in the original St Paul's Church in 1942 and am thrilled that its very pleasing replacement has been nominated for an award.

Father Tim Pike (the priest-in-charge at St. Paul's Harringay) and yours truly will be on BBC London 94.9's Inspirit show this Sunday morning at about 7am to talk about the church, its architecture and its community - hope you'll all be up bright and early to listen in!
