Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Stroud Green Library to be renamed Stroud Green & Harringay Library
Well that's a nice way to finish the week.
About a year ago I stumbled across the fact that Stroud Green Library was originally conceived as Stroud Green & Harringay Library.
Following that I had a few conversations with Diana Edmonds, Head of Haringey Libraries, about about changing the name to reclaim our heritage. There are good reasons for it beyond nostaligia.
She agreed to the idea in principle and since then she and the Friends of the Library have been working to get permission for the name change.
Today it's come through!
So very soon we'll have a Stroud Green & Harringay Library. Rebecca, the library manager is finding out the cost of a new sign and then, assuming the money can be found we're away. It may be that the library will ask for donations. That hasn't happened yet, but if you're burning to support the idea, contact:

THIS is good news. Our little library is the best facility nearby; thanks to council refurbishment in recent years it is looking the best it has in ages; it has the best opening hours for probably many decades. In the future, there is the potential to expand upstairs.
It is well situated, being on a minor intersection, on a bus route with a W5 bus stop right outside; it is a minute from Harringay railway station, by small group of shops and 100m from a large council estate (Chettle Court). From Harringay it is reached over the pedestrian bridge, beyond the railway station and on the right.
Thanks go to Diana Edmonds and to the council for cherishing the Borough's oldest library. It's a jewel.
