suspended residents parking bays
Has anyone else out there been caught out by the Temporary suspension of the residents bays ? I have returned to my vehicle parked in Stanhope Gardens today and noticed the dreaded yellow envelope on the windscreen, it declares that I have parked in a suspended bay.. on looking around I see a shabby notice some 20 metres away and not even facing in the correct direction attached to a lamppost. There was only one such notice for the suspension of the bays outside No 19 to 27 Stanhope and as I had parked outside No 19 and had walked in the OPPOSITE direction from the sign to my house how was I to know the bays were suspended?? Anyone out there know the correct rules for the signage?

I would like to know the rules as well.
Had some friends arrive Friday night 9pm,parked their car about 20 metres down the road and, as they were staying overnight, I gave them a 2 HR parking voucher timed for the following morning 8.30 am to 10.30am. Well, turned out voucher wasn't necessary as the following morning when they were leaving at 10am they found one of those dreaded notices on their windscreen. Apparently, they were parked (actually, only the rear wheels were) in a suspended parking bay. Like you, they found the notice 20 metres further down the road tied to a lamppost.There were no cones in the suspended area and no other warning when they arrived in the dark the night before. So infuriating. Anyway, they took some photos and I understand they may appeal.
I don't have a car myself but am quite wary of these parking vultures. A few months ago a friend dropped off a door to my home one Saturday morning 9 am, he was in my place no more than 5 minutes and when he returned to his van outside he found a parking notice on his windscreen and the parking attendant guy was furiously pedalling away from the scene on his bike. Maddening.
This was on Lausanne rd.

Parking Wardens are supposed to wait five minutes before ticketing in case the offender has a genuine reason for not displaying a permit.

I have already sent my appeal in, and I recommend your friends do the same, if the council has to suspend parking in the bays then they must ensure that the rules are followed correctly to give residents and their visitors proper warning. The present way they are doing it must be generating a nice little earner..

If you go down the appeal route I guess you will still need to pay the penalty charge of £65 within 7 days or you may find the charge doubles if your appeal is rejected?
I am sure they have appealed already but will check with them later

no, if you appeal and are unsuccessful you still get to pay at the reduced rate.

in Effingham Road....my sons girlfriend got her car towed away because she was parked in a suspended area about 10 minutes after 8.00 am (she had a visitors parking permit.) other cars were just picked up and moved. the signs had been up for ages and we all thought the suspension was done. the space was reserved for new people moving in and they didnt need anywhere near the amount of space created by this seriously outrageous practice. absolutely infuriating !!! the signs should go up for less time and then removed as soon as the suspension is finished, and the towers should give a few minutes for people to move their cars rather than stealing them...and then demanding massive amounts of money for their return grrrrr!!!
