Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

So I have just seen someone wearing a THAMES WATER reflective jacket walking along the banks of NEW RIVER between Cavendish and Burgoyne kicking every piece of rubbish including lots and lots of plastic bags into New River at 10:05 this morning.

I shouted at the window at him to stop (I didn't swear!) and pick it up and he speeded up!

I'm going to be emailing Thames Water of course.

What's the point of sending someone along the banks to clear up the rubbish if they are going to kick it in the water?

unbelievable.

Mark  You might want to try this lady, she deals with the NR and I think you will get to the right people quicker.

Kirsty Jones, Visitor Experience Manager, 020 3577 2438, 077 4764 2438, Kirsty.e.jones@thameswater.co.uk

I've been on twitter to Thames water and they say they are investigating

I will forward my email I sent to Kirsty Jones as well and report on here the outcome.

And Kirsty is on maternity and her autoreply is set to a person who is on leave!

Maybe twitter will work better

I assume you didn't get a photo?

No and I am kicking myself. Rather than shout at him out of the office window I should have filmed him carefully kicking every piece into the river.

He sped up as soon as I shouted and rushed off towards Burgoyne...

I would say next time but jeez.

Unlucky. Did you get a number plate?

Nope. If he had a vehicle it was on Burgoyne. I'm on Cavendish

This is doubly annoying. Now someone will have to wade into the river to remove the crap AND it's only a few weeks since a bunch of people gave their time and effort for free to clear the rubbish between Wightman and Hampden Roads
I've seen the guys who cut the grass along the New River doing this. When challenged they just denied it.
Unbelievable
I live on Duckett Road and had a similar experience. Of seeing them throwing garbage on th river while cutting the grass. Thank you for complaining and very happy to add my name to the people that have see thin happening.

I said I would report on this:

Just got an email (070716) and a phone call from a very nice Thames Water person who was mortified.

In the email she stated

"It is our policy for all Thames Water staff and their contractors to collect the litter and dispose of it, not in the river.  The Site Performance Manager has reassured me that this won’t happen in future.  Since the receipt of your email, the rubbish should have been cleared.  However, to make sure this has been done, we will be visiting the river tomorrow to inspect the area.  "

So if it happens again...
