Yep, just had notification from the school.

They are now holding sports day in the playground, and because of space, parents and carers now can't attend.

So, that's that then

Just awful. How in the name of everything that's holy can these individuals do this on a recurring basis, with no repercussion? And what sort of belligerent parking job is this?

The least they could do is some sort of orderly parking arrangement where they minimise their coverage over the footprint of the park. This borough has a massive issue with antisocial behaviour, and this is yet another sad example.

Can one phone the police and report this? I'd be inclined...

Football on Saturday...????

Wha? But Chestnuts is tiny. Can see how this could happen in Downhills but this is really surprising...

And what about all the other park users like the football training sessions that can't continue until these hooligans move on ? Parking on what I think is called the cricket square ? It's not just one day we're talking about.

Traveller culture like removing the registration plates when they park up so they can't be traced ? Traveller culture like forcing locked gates ?

I trust the headmistress would have more sense than you.

osbawn, the clean-up in the borough of Enfield, after they have been moved on from parks and especially the old Minchenden School (opposite Southgate Tech) has run into many hundreds of thousands the past two years, probably over the million mark. I know - because I saw it. A field the size of a football pitch, completely full of waste about 6 foot high that they left behind.

It would cost less if councils still had an obligation to provide adequate pitch sites. I might have missed something ( I often do) but weren't they relieved of this sensible policy sometime ago.

I'm not condoning anti social behaviour, crime or commercial scale dumping, But if all councils across the country had a couple of good sites, at least a lot of caravans wouldn't take up space In the parks and recs.

Having sports day cancelled may not be a big thing to most but It would be for parents and kids. I loved them when my kids were nippers.

I just knew there would be some bleeding heart along soon to condone antisocial behaviour by playing the race card. How about the acceptable face of letting the kids have their sports day ?

Good point. When capitalists do it with the "permission" of our councillors it's OK.

As I've said on here before, when Haringey Council closed two traveller sites to enable development there was a loss of 22 pitches for trailers plus cars, these sites were closed on the understanding and promise that 4 new alternative sites would be provided within the borough, that has not happened. Provision within Haringey has been cut and cut so that there is now only provision for 10 trailers in the borough, amongst the lowest in London.

In the Borough of Camden sites are provided and are well organised, rates and rents are paid and it functions smoothly.

"Why should the council even be providing traveller sites?"

Many of the sites go back generations providing stable tenancy for children to attend school, families to attend GPs , clinics etc. Most are permanent sites, some are for transit. The travelers apply for a site and have tenancy agreements with the council and pay rent and community charge, together with all the usual bills electricity, water etc just like a council tenants renting a flat.

Local councils own, provide and rent land for allotments, farms, sports pitches, parks, they own and rent garages, lock ups, houses, flats, shops, industrial units, warehouses, studios, offices, community buildings etc etc etc etc, until recently they even owned a chicken fast food outlet, so renting land for various needs is part of their remit.

Many of the traveler sites are on land that cannot be used for building so it makes good sense to rent to paying tenants, however many sites that can be used for development are being closed to be developed for housing. Without providing other sites the traveler council tenants, many of whom have longstanding roots in the area are made effectively homeless depriving children of schooling and health provisions etc.

Haringey Council reneged on assurances to their tenants on sites that were shut that they would provide four new sites.

"is the rubbish dumping some sort of 'protest' that Haringey does not provide them with a traveller site?". Please read what I have written, please do not look for conspiracies that are not there.
